About shiatsu

 

Shiatsu is a Japanese style of bodywork with roots in Chinese medicine. The word shiatsu means "to press with the fingers." It involves rocking, assisted stretching and pressure to specific points along the body's energy channels. 


The goal of shiatsu is to harmonize the flow of vital energy, or qi (pronounced chee) in the body.

Who I am


Hi, my name is Melanie Bissonnette. I've been doing massage for over ten years. Years ago during a trip to the redwoods in California, I felt a call to enter the massage profession. Shortly after my trip, I began my training at the Oregon School of Massage. I soon realized that I loved practicing shiatsu and decided that it would become my focus. I've studied many aspects of Chinese medicine with my teacher and mentor, Jim Cleaver, LAc and use the knowledge to better serve my clients. I love shiatsu because it works at a deep, energetic level to facilitate whole-body healing.
